Island selection and entity placement are the key strategic decisions. Islands with specific geographic traits suit specific entity types — placing humans on a resource-rich island that could support sheep instead forgoes production in favor of population growth, a trade-off whose correct answer depends on what the empire currently needs most. Building bases and gathering the resources to fund aggressive island acquisition before enemies can consolidate creates tempo advantages that passive economic players cannot replicate. The simulation layer beneath the strategy is the pixel world's organic growth — watching placed humans build towns that visibly expand, populations that multiply over time, and island ecosystems that develop their own character.
